As of January 1, 2025, Brazil’s online betting market has entered a new era of regulation. The government has implemented strict regulations to make sure that only licensed betting sites can legally deliver fixed-odds betting services in Brazil, blocking over 9,600 illegal betting sites between October 2024 and January 2025.

Licensing and compliance

In order to legally operate in Brazil, betting companies must obtain a license from the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA), the regulatory body overseeing the industry. As of early 2025, 14 operators have received full licenses, while more than 50 companies are in the process of completing compliance requirements under temporary approvals.

All operators need to follow strict guidelines on security, anti-money laundering, and responsible gambling. Moreover, they need to operate under the .bet.br domain in order to ensure transparency.

With its new regulatory framework, Brazil is positioning itself as a key player in the online gambling industry, ensuring not only economic benefits, but also enhanced transparency, ethics, and stronger protection for bettors.
