The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 will take place between June 14th and July 13th in the United States and will feature 32 teams for the first time. Some of the best clubs from around the world will compete, bringing top level football action to fans everywhere.
History and format
The FIFA Club World Cup was first held in 2000 as a competition that brought together the champions from each of FIFA’s six continental confederations, along with the host nation’s league champion. After a short hiatus, it returned in 2005 and has been held annually since then. Traditionally, the tournament featured seven teams in a knockout format over a short period.
Starting this year, the Club World Cup is expanding to feature 32 teams (instead of 7) and will be held every four years. There will be eight groups of four teams and each team will play three group stage matches, with the top two from each group advancing to the round of 16. The knockout stages will then have a single elimination format: quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final.
Participating teams
The tournament will feature top clubs as follows: 12 from Europe, 6 from South America, 4 from Asia, 4 from Africa, 4 from North, Central America and the Caribbean, 1 from Oceania, and 1 team from the host nation.
