The Africa Cup of Nations 2025, which will take place from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, is prepared to deliver another highly competitive chapter in African football, bringing together the continent’s top national teams in a battle for continental supremacy.

Tournament Overview

AFCON 2025 takes place in Morocco with 24 teams competing for the trophy. The tournament will have the following structure:

  • The teams are divided into six groups (with 4 teams each)
  • The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, advance to the Round of 16
  • From that point, the tournament continues with knockout rounds until the final

Participating teams

Defending champions, Ivory Coast, arrive with high expectations after their win in the previous edition (2023 Africa Cup of Nations). Senegal, Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco and Algeria are also among the favourites, each team having players from Europe’s top leagues.

Morocco, as hosts, will face high expectations after a series of strong performances in both continental and World Cup level. Other national teams like Mali, Cameroon, Ghana or DR Congo aim to challenge the top favorites.
