The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Philippines has officially banned all its government workers from accessing and placing online bets. This ban applies to all employees, workers from attached agencies, and both elected and appointed local government officials.

This decision is based on the Memorandum Circular 2025-082 and the prohibition covers accessing online gambling platforms or participating in any type of online betting. The order takes effect immediately and applies nationwide.

DILG says that this move, which is in line with the 1987 Constitution, R.A. 6713, and existing presidential issuances, has the goal to protect the integrity of public service, extending the existing ban on casino gambling to the online space, which is considered an equal or even a greater threat.

The ban follows calls from lawmakers to tighten rules on gambling among public servants and to set very clear standards for ethical conduct in the government. Any employee found to be in violation of this directive will face administrative and criminal penalties under current laws.
