Betting on Poker

BETTING ON POKER

There's no doubt that playing online poker is very easy in our days because you just need a computer and an internet connection to register an account to an online poker room and start playing, but one interesting thing is that you can now bet online on your favorite poker players using the services of online betting sites. In the following lines we'll discuss the poker betting markets and online bookmakers where you can bet on this "mind sport".

Poker is a card game with many variations played all over the world for many years offline or online (to a wide range of poker rooms). Currently, most online bookmakers have poker rooms (e.g. Bet365, William Hill, Paddy Power, Unibet, BetVictor, Ladbrokes etc.), but this wasn't enough and since poker was officially accepted as a mind sport, some online bookmakers decided to provide the possibility of betting on major poker tournaments/events from all over the world.

Unlike other sports, poker doesn't have so many betting markets available, which is perfectly normal considering that there aren't too many major competitions. However, there are online bookmakers where you can find some interesting markets and Bet365 is probably the best example to analyze.

If we visit the poker betting section of Bet365, we discover at least 5 betting markets available for poker - which is pretty impressive. Eventually, if there are major poker events (such as WSOP, WPT, WPT, World Championship of Poker etc.) and you can't find them in the betting offer, you can contact the customer support and request the events and markets. Regarding the markets, here are some interesting examples of betting markets available for poker:

o Outright betting - as the name suggest, you have the possibility to predict the winner of a poker tournament/competition;
o To Make Final Table - usually available only for the major competitions, some online bookmakers allow you to predict which participants will make it to the final table of a specific competition;
o Player Match-Ups - when top players are competing, you have the chance to place head to head bets. For example, you can predict if player X will be placed higher at the final of the competition compared to player Y;
o Nationality of the winner - this betting market clearly suggests that you can predict the nationality of the winner;
o To make the top 20 is another interesting betting market that got our attention.

Overall, we can say that betting on poker isn't exactly the most attractive betting sports category that we've seen, but it's definitely something that poker fans & player might consider. A bettor who used to watch the major poker competition and also plays online poker, now has great chances to increase his betting budget by placing bets on poker events.
