BETTING TERMINOLOGY

Online betting is so complex that it's almost impossible for a bettor who just discovered betting/online betting not to encounter difficulties in placing bets. This is because there are many betting terms which are not easy to understand by a person who had never bet before.

Most online betting sites have help sections with tutorials or guides, but these are mostly focused on the basic actions, such as claiming a first deposit bonus, making a deposit, registering an account, placing a bet, and not on the actual betting terminology. Fortunately, there are online bookmakers who thought about this issue and decided to create dedicated sections with explanations for the major betting terms. Some examples of online bookmakers are: Bet365, Titanbet or Pinnacle.

For those beginners who are planning to use the services of other online bookmakers who don't provide explanations for the most popular betting terms, they can find some explanations here:

o Accumulator - a multiple bet with 2 or more selections. All the selections must be marked as "win" in order to receive the winnings.
o Ante Post - bets placed with more than a day before the start of the game.
o Arbitrage - a bettor manages to back both sides and guarantee a profit no matter the result (this can be done as a result of odds variations).
o Arber - a bettor who is doing arbitrage.
o Asian Handicap - a type of bet that gives a virtual advantage to the weakest team.
o Banker - a selection with huge chances of winning (from the bettor's perspective) which is the most important part of a combination bet.
o Bankroll - the total amount of money available in a bettor's betting account.
o Bet - a wager.
o Bettor - a person who places bets.
o Betslip/Betting slip - the mini-window where the selections are added.
o Bookmaker - a person or organization who makes odds and accepts bets.
o Dead Heat - when two competitors are declared winners (they finish equally).
o Double Chance - allows you to place one bet on two results for the same sporting event.
o Each Way - one single bet with 2 selections: to win and to place on a specific position.
o Event - term for game, tournament, match etc.
o Favourite - the team/player with the greatest chances of winning.
o Forecast - betting on what selections will finish first and second.
o Gambler - bettor.
o Handicap - a virtual advantage given to the weaker team/player.
o Head to head - a two-way game.
o In-running - live betting or placing bets after the event has started.
o In-play - live betting or in-running.
o Kick-off - start of the match.
o Lay - you bet that a specific team won't win.
o Limit - the maximum amount of money that the bookmaker will let you bet.
o Margin - also known as margin betting, means that you must predict the winner and the point/goal difference between the two teams.
o Multiple - bets with multiple selections.
o Odds - the price on which you place bets (offered by bookmakers).
o Over - a type of bet/wager to predict if the number of points or goals will be over a certain limit.
o Parlay - multiple bet/multibet or accumulator.
o Payout - the total amount of money that you receive in when you win a bet.
o Single - a bet with only one selection, straight bet.
o Stake - the amount of money you place on a bet.
o Under - a type of bet/wager to predict if the number of points or goals will be under a certain limit.
